On March 16, 1978 Nancy & Peter Sutherland officially started Sutherland Farms. Things began as a small produce stand on the side of Dix Avenue.  The produce stand slowly grew in to greenhouses and a full on garden center. Along with their love of growing plants, Peter & Nancy always had a love of pets and animals. Animal feed and supplies was an easy addition to the garden center. Eventually the animal and pet supplies became the heart and soul of the business and the name changed to Sutherland's PetWorks.

During these many changes Peter & Nancy hired some great employees that have become important member of the Sutherland's PetWorks Family. Douglas Bates, a Cornell grad in animal sciences, started full-time on May 15, 1989 after working part time the summer before. Norma Johnson-Glacy, also a Cornell grad in animal sciences, helped in the greenhouses in the 80's before starting full-time in 2001.  

Somewhere along the way Nancy & Peter also fit in time to raise two (amazing) kids, Jesse & Sarah. Sarah and her husband John took over as owners in January 2011. Though the business has grown, the basis is still the same. We get to know our customers. (Like the "Cheers" of pet supplies!) And we are committed to providing a wide selection of the very best products available at low reasonable prices.
